This story was written by Shari who was on the October 16 Ghost Tour: In July 1994, I was coming back from somewhere I should have never been, driving down 967 when all of a sudden, I hit a deer at a high rate of speed. My car flipped and it came to stop by hitting a tree. I was 17 at the time and I knew I was in a LOT of trouble because I was far away from home.
It was about 1:30am, on a long, dark, country road that is rarely traveled on, especially at that time. I sat in the car for maybe a second when I saw headlights coming out of nowhere towards me. I got out of my car, ran in to the middle of the road where an older, brown truck stopped to "render aid." It was a woman driving the truck. She was beautiful. She had long, blonde, wavy hair and was wearing a long flowing white skirt with a beautiful white top. Before I could say anything, she said, "I was sent here for you." I wasn't sure what to say other than, "can you take me home?" I got in to the truck with her. She proceeded to identify herself as "Barbie." She told me she was moving and that she worked at the Salt Lick in Driftwood. I didn't really want to talk much since I knew my parents would be upset about the car. Before I could give her directions to where I lived, she already had her turn signals on in the direction we were supposed to be going, but I still kept telling her left or right. Around one bend closer to the house, she said, "Now, there will be a deer on the side of the road. He's not going to hurt us. I just don't want you to be scared." Strangely, on the other side of the bend, there was a deer standing there. We got to the house and she asked me if I wanted her to talk to my parents. I declined. I offered her money, but she declined. As I walked to the door and looked back to wave goodbye, the truck was gone. Fast forwarding about a week later, I decided to make the trip down to Salt Lick to "thank" the woman who picked me up for basically saving my life. I went in and asked to speak to Barbie. The woman at the front said, "Barbie? Barbie that worked here? I'm sorry but she died about a year or two ago in an accident on 967 at about 1:30am." The next thing she said to me was, "Are you OK? It looks like you've seen a ghost." My reply was, "I think I have." I gathered myself back up, went back to my car and just started crying. I had no idea what to do or how to feel. What just happened? Was this my imagination? A year or two later, I took it upon myself to do research on this mysterious woman. I found an obituary for her, and in the picture, she was a beautiful blonde, wearing all white. It still kind of bothers me a little telling the story. It gives me chills to think about it. I don't know why or who would have sent her. I am thankful that something (or someone) was looking out for me that night. I can't remember her last name and if her name was Barbara or Barbie. It was 16 years ago and I've honestly tried to not remembering it. |
